The General Intervention of the State Administration (IGAE) is the internal control body for the economic-financial management of the public sector and the public accounts management centre. It is attached to the State Secretariat for Budget and Costs.

As an internal control agency, it is responsible for verifying, through previous monitoring of legitimacy and financial control, that the public sector's economic and financial activity complies with the principles of legality, economy, efficiency and effectiveness. As a centre for the management of public accounts, it is responsible for providing reliable, complete, professional and independent accounting information about public management, and issuing the regulations needed for it to operate correctly.
